Vegan Barbecue Rib Sandwich

Nothing says summer like a barbeque sandwich! We all loved that famous fast food sandwich that would make an appearance every so often. Of course it was made from animal products and now that I know what I know I definitely don’t want it anymore! There was a Morningstar Farms product that emulated that sandwich but it was discontinued. I emailed the company about it and they said it was discontinued due to lack of interest in the product. I find that hard to believe but I guess their numbers don’t lie.

I decided to try my hand at making it myself and this is the result! I really enjoyed it and I hope you do too1If you want to make these for meal prep I would recommend making the meat patties then lay them on a baking tray without touching each other. once they are frozen they can be stored in the freezer in a storage container or freezer bag. I would put a piece of parchment paper in between each patty.

However you decide to do it I hope you enjoy it and share this sandwich with friends. Let people know that vegan food isn’t twigs and grass it’s far more variety than I ever ate before I went vegan and you never know what you might like until you try it!

For this delicious sandwich you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 package of impossible burger

  • 1 1/2 cups of bbq sauce [your choice]

  • 1 Tablespoon of bbq rub plus some to sprinkle on the outside of the patties [your choice]

  • 2 hoagie rolls

Mix the impossible meat with 1 tablespoon of the bbq dry rub. Separate the meat into two equal portions. Shape each portion into rectangle shapes approximately the size of your hoagie roll. Sprinkle bbq dry rub on each side of the rectangles.

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 12 minutes. Remove them from the oven and let them rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to reabsorb. Coat the patties thoroughly on both sides with your choice of bbq sauce and return them to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.

You can toast the rolls if you wish and use any condiments you choose. I prefer them without additional condiments. Do it how you want it to be! A lot of people like onions whether they are caramelized, grilled or fresh. Like the famous sandwich, a lot of people like pickles on this sandwich. A more adventurous eater might put hot peppers on their sandwich or even coleslaw.
